How to paint weatherboards

Repainting your home’s weatherboards always seems like a bigger job than it really is. It’s almost impossible to shake the Fear of Mucking Up off of your shoulders. Does the job take take time and care? Any job worth doing usually does. But is it difficult? Certainly not. Especially with British Paints in your corner.

Have a look at our handy little guide. We’ll make a FOMU Fighter of you yet.

Let’s begin by picking the perfect paint. British Paints 4 Seasons is carefully formulated to protect your home against sun, rain, wind and mould. It’s the perfect thing for Australian weather, which is quite happy to run through all four seasons in a day. Pick up a tin at your local Bunnings.

You’ve picked your paint and prepped your tools. Let’s get painting.

Step One

Tackle the wall in sections. Rather than paint one long, horizontal board at a time, divide your wall into vertical columns. You’ll find that constantly moving around will tire you out quite quickly.

Step Two

Begin painting from the top of the wall, and paint three boards at a time. Cut in from the bottom of each board, and make sure your brush reaches into every overlap.

Step Three

Once you’ve given the boards a nice coat, reload your brush and give each board a long, smooth brush stroke for an even finish.

Step Four

That’s the first three boards done. How easy was that? Keep at it, three boards at a time and column by column, and you’ll be done in no time.

Good luck, FOMU Fighter.
