How to paint candy cane crates this Christmas

It’s that time of the year when homes are being decorated, presents are being wrapped and everyone’s looking forward to a lovely time with family and friends.

It’s also the perfect time for some DIY to add to the Christmas cheer, and we have just the fun project you need for the holidays. These candy cane crates are a lovely way to display your presents at home, or as gift hampers to give to your loved ones.

Take a look:

Gather your supplies: Wooden crates in different sizes, a sanding block, flat brushes to prime and paint, British Paints sample pots in the colours you love and British Paints Prep 4in1.

Prepare the crates: Using the sanding block, gently sand down the crates to ensure you have a smooth surface to paint on.

Clean: After sanding, wipe away any dust/particles so the paint can adhere to the surface.

Get started: Prime the surface with British Paints Prep 4in1. Begin painting the first coat in the base colour and recoat it 1-2 more times for the perfect finish. Allow it to dry between coats.

Time to paint: If you plan on sticking to a traditional Christmas theme, use colours Red Bauble and Star White on alternate panels to get a candy cane pattern as shown in the video. Otherwise, use any colour of your choice – the crates will be just as beautiful!

Finish and display: Once the paint has dried, fill them up with Christmas presents or décor. They look great as a display around your Christmas tree or you can give them away as hampers!
